Who we are

Share the Load ("we", "us") is a family coordination app available at sharetheload.online. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at hello@sharetheload.online.

What we collect

  • Account info: your email address, display name, and password hash (when you sign up with email), or your Google profile (name, email, profile picture) when you sign in with Google.
  • Family content you create: family name, member list, events, tasks, notes, and any text, images, or forwarded emails you submit to your family inbox.
  • Google Calendar data (only if you connect it — see below).
  • Basic technical data: log data and error reports needed to keep the service running.

How we use Google user data

If you choose to connect your Google Calendar, Share the Load requests the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.readonly scope. We use this access strictly to:

  • Read upcoming events from your primary Google Calendar so you can review and import selected events into your shared family hub.

We do not:

  • Write to, modify, or delete any events in your Google Calendar.
  • Share your Google user data with third parties.
  • Use your Google user data for advertising.
  • Use your Google user data to train AI or machine learning models.
  • Allow humans to read your Google user data, except (a) with your explicit consent, (b) to comply with applicable law, or (c) where strictly necessary for security or to debug a problem you have reported to us.

Share the Load's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Where Google Calendar tokens are stored

When you connect Google Calendar, an access token is issued by Google and stored in your browser's local storage on the device you used to connect. Tokens expire after about one hour. We do not store your Google access token on our servers. If you sign out, clear your browser data, or click "Disconnect" in the app, the token is removed.

How we use your other data

  • To run the core features of the app: create family spaces, store events and tasks, sync between family members.
  • To process content you submit (pasted text, screenshots, forwarded emails) and extract events and tasks from it. This processing may use third-party AI providers as data processors on our behalf; they are bound by their respective Data Processing Agreements and do not retain your content for training.
  • To contact you about your account or important service changes.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

  • Service providers who help us run the service (hosting, database, email delivery, AI processing). They access data only to provide their service to us.
  • Other members of your family space — anything you add to a family space (events, tasks, notes) is visible to all members of that space. Your Google Calendar data is NOT shared with other family members unless you choose to import specific events.
  • Authorities, where required by law.

How long we keep your data

We keep your account and family content for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual items at any time. To delete your account and all associated data, email us at hello@sharetheload.online. We will action deletion requests within 30 days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, email hello@sharetheload.online.

You can revoke Share the Load's access to your Google Calendar at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Security

We use industry-standard measures (encryption in transit, access controls, hashed passwords) to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password.

Children

Share the Load is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notice. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the current version.
